The sloping garden of this barn conversion in the Derbyshire countryside had been partly landscaped and laid to lawn. The clients were keen to attract more wildlife and create a cohesive space that incorporated a gravel garden and wildlife pond, whilst fitting with the existing garden. Using the natural slope of the garden, we introduced gravel beds that wrapped around an existing snaking path, alongside a meandering stone stream, wildflower meadow and a large wildlife pond. An emphasis was placed on pollinator friendly planting, giving year-round interest and encouraging a huge range of insects and frogs, water boatmen and dragonflies are now permanent residents of the pond.
